The Mardi Gras spirit arrived this year via our guest from New Orleans.  To welcome hisvisit, we cooked up a real Louisiana feast for six.  We decorated with masks, beads, feathers, coins and flowers.  All in the traditional Mardi Gras colors of purple, gold and green.  Was he surprised!

I have been to Paris one time during the Christmas Season.  I had just started a company called French Bee Travel and was meeting a friend who owns Camelback Odyssey Travel in Phoenix, Arizona.  We met in Paris to review boutique hotels. We arrived separately and she recommended I try a “meet and greet” service, you’ll love it.  I did not realize this service was available to travellers.

A refreshing jog in the forested park, Bois de Boulogne, can be the perfect break during a trip in the city.  At the western side of the 16th arrondissement, this park is the second largest in Paris and dates back to the mid 1800’s. Its more than twice as large as Central Park in New York City, and has over 2,000 acres of terrain to explore.

The locks on the bridge near Notre Dame are a famous symbol of love in Paris.  For years, visitors have attached metal padlocks to the iron grill of the bridge in expressions of enduring love.  The tradition involves etching or inscribing initials on the lock, attaching it to the bridge, then dropping the key into the Seine below.  As of last year there were an estimated 700,000 keys at the bottom of the river (reported by the New York Times, June 15, 2015)!

(Happy Valentines Day!)

A very good friend of ours sent us a photograph her daughter Kristin had taken of her French bulldog, Louie.   The minute we saw it we realized it was the perfect Valentine to share with you!  We hope you all enjoy your day with your special Valentines!

September in Paris 2014

Having visited France often since 1996 at various times of the year, September is one of my favorite months to tour Paris. It was a welcome treat to have my friend, Terre join me. It was her first early fall Paris visit. We usually stay at the wonderful hotel, Esprit Saint Germain by Church of Saint Sulpice but this trip we decided to rent an apartment less than one block from Cathedral Notre Dame. We could see the left tower from our kitchen window. The tower bells were ringing when we arrived. We both looked at each other; “Do they ring all night”?
